National Institute of Technology Silchar is invites applications in prescribed format from Indian Nationals possessing consistently good academic record and requisite qualifications for the PhD admission in the following departements
- Department of Civil Engineering
- Department of Computer Science & Engineering
- Department of Electrical Engineering
- Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering
- Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering
- Department of Mechanical Engineering
- Department of Chemistry
- Department of Mathematics
- Department of Physics
- Department of Management Studies
- Department of Humanities and Social Sciences
The categories of the PhD admission type are given below-
- Group-A: Regular/full-time with Fellowship
- Group-B: Without Fellowship
- Group-B: Regular/full-time
- Group-B: Part-time
- Group-B: Sponsored
- Group-B: Institute Employees
- Group-B: Project staff
- Group-B: Sponsored (External Registration)
- Please select the group carefully while filling up the application form
- No change of Gourp/Department will be entertained after the submission of the application form.

- Persons employed in government and non-government organizations should upload the NOC along with appointment order as single PDF in the experience section. The original NOC must be submitted at the time of interview.
- All supporting document must be in PDF format. No other format are accepted.
- Photo and singature must be JPG format. No other formats are accepted.
- After completion of the form, the candidate has to click on "Preview and Submit" to submit the application form.
- Download the application form from either email or login into the portal.
- Please note that the candidature of the applicant will not be considered unless the application is submitted, for this applicant has to click Submit Application button
- The final pdf copy of the Application form is mandatory to email to phd_admission@nits.ac.in on or before
25.05.2025. Subject line should be “Application for Ph.D. program-Name of the department (applying
for)-Group A /Group B”. No need to send the hard copy of the Application form.
- You have to select at least the one primary department.
- You can apply one additional department.
- Apart from the primary department, you have to pay the processing fee for the additional department too.
- If you wish to apply for one department but not additional department, then select "None".
Fee details
- ST/SC/PWD candidate has to pay non-refundable processing fee of Rs. 500.00.
- OBC/UR/EWS candidate has to pay non-refundable processing fee of Rs. 1000.00.
Payment method
- Non – refundable application fees of ₹ 1,000.00 for UR/OBC/EWS candidates & ₹ 500.00 for SC/ST/PWBD candidates to be paid directly through online payment SB Collect portal at State Bank of India (https://www.onlinesbi.com). Follow the Instructions given below for making your payments.
- Access https://www.onlinesbi.sbi/sbicollect/icollecthome.htm
- Select Type of Category as "Educational Institutions"
- Select State as "Assam"
- Select the Name of the institution as "Online Fee collection account NIT Silchar"
- Select the payment category as "Application fee for PhD Admission"
- Fill the necessary fields
- Note: SBI verifies valid permanent address. Please provide valid permanent address to the SBI Collect.
- No other modes of payment are accepted.
General Instructions
- All qualification, experience and age will be recognized as on the last date of submission of online application.
- The prescribed qualification and experience are minimum and mere possession of the same does not entitle candidates to be called for test / interview.
- No correspondence will be entertained with the candidates, who are not called for test / interview.
- Canvassing in any form will result in disqualification of candidature.
- Legal disputes, if any, will be restricted within the jurisdiction of Silchar Court only.
- All reserved category candidates shall be required to submit self-attested copies of the latest Caste certificate issued by competent authority at the time of test / interview, if called for.
Applicants belonging to OBC (NCL) / EWS category will have to submit latest OBC (NCL) / EWS certificate from Competent Authority in prescribed format as per Government of India norms.
Similarly, PWBD candidates shall be required to submit proof of disability mentioning the percentage of disability issued by the Competent Authority
- The applicant will be responsible for the authenticity of submitted information/documents and photograph. It is the responsibility of the applicant to assess his/her own eligibility to the post in accordance to the advertisement, if it is detected at any time in future, during the process of selection or even after admission which could not be detected at the time of admission for whatsoever reason, his/her candidature/admission shall be liable to be cancelled/terminated immediately.
